It’s annual review time. You have one member of your team Charlie – a friend of several years – who also applied (unsuccessfully) for the team leader role that you were assigned. Whilst their individual performance of their KPIs is on target, they often make sarcastic, negative comments about strategic initiatives. It’s typically done in a joking fashion, but you worry that it erodes other team members’ faith in what you’re trying to achieve. You know that Charlie is expecting a very strong performance rating.
